Summary

Donald Trump is expected to nominate Sen. Marco Rubio as secretary of state, according to sources.

Rubio, who has served in the Senate since 2011 and has substantial foreign policy experience, is viewed by State Department officials as unlikely to overly politicize the role.

Initially a critic of Trump, Rubio has since aligned closely with his agenda, including a more cautious stance on aid to Ukraine.

His confirmation is expected to proceed smoothly, as Florida Governor Ron DeSantis would appoint Rubio’s Senate replacement until the next election.

Is he? He was pretty hyped about how well Ukraine did in the early days of the conflict, actively tweeting about all the insane stuff that was going on. I think he was criticized for maybe speaking a little too openly about stuff that wasn’t exactly public knowledge, but he didn’t seem like a Russian asset from that perspective.

I would have just pegged him as another war hawk that probably uses an alt account on NCD. Maybe I missed something.

So’s Paul. Don’t forget that he made a solo trip to Russia in August 2017 to hand deliver a letter from Trump to Putin.

Yes, a sitting US Senator was doing a job that the State Department ought to have been doing.
