Given the choice between preserving democratic norms and achieving their ideal policy goals, many Americans would opt for the latter, new research suggests.
Most people only really care about 2-3 topics in a federal election. People pick the candidate that aligns with what they believe is important. In the 2 party system that almost never changes because each party has a somewhat unified set of beliefs.
I sort of feel like “holy fuck not Trump” is a unifying ideal, but maybe other people are more nuanced. It’s just that I literally expect him to do the most horrific thing possible in any circumstance. I don’t think he’s ever done anything I’ve ever agreed with, except one thing with H1B visas.
I honestly think a gibbon monkey throwing feces at a dartboard would be a statistically better form of government.
My friend (please note that this is rhetorical. We are not friends. I have your tagged, I know who you are, and I know I’m likely wasting my time here), I’ve been opposed to this genocide from the start, and I will continue to be opposed to it regardless of what US administration is enabling it.
One of the many reasons I’m voting for Harris over Trump is because I care about the lives of Palestinians and am willing to be pragmatic about which of the two possible outcomes would be worse (far, far worse).
It’s easy to just not vote, and then wash your hands of it when Trump wins and gives Netanyahu carte blanche to eliminate the Palestinian people. But that will not absolve you, as your inaction will have led to countless additional Palestinian death and suffering.
People are clear that advocating for change should come after Trump is defeated at the polls.
In this election the choice is “would you like your eggs sunny side up or thrown in the dumpster?” Plenty of time after the results are in to say “actually, I prefer mine scrambled.”
Not really, people were pretty clear that they didn’t like Biden or Harris, it’s just that they’re better than Trump.
I’ve been polled a couple of times this year and they ask me to rank the candidates from 0 to 100.
I put Biden at about a 60, Harris at 55, but Trump is a zero.

People are clear that any advocacy for a change in policy on Harris’ part means you want Trump to win and are a maga chud.
No, blind loyalty is the order of the day, particularly here on lemmy.
You change policy goals about things like Israel after the election.
Otherwise you will lose.
You don’t want them changed at all.
What is this supposed to be, like an attempt at hypnosis?
Ok. If you do want them changed, I expect to see you being vocal about genocide after the election.
In opposition.
Yes sir, thank you, sir.
So I shouldn’t expect you to start opposing genocide once the election is over, then?

No. They just want silence. There will be a new excuse after the election.
