Summary

Donald Trump pledged to impose a 25% tariff on all products from Mexico and Canada on his first day in office, blaming them for failing to stop illegal drugs and immigration.

He also vowed to add a 10% tariff on Chinese goods until drug trafficking into the U.S. ceases.

Economists warn these tariffs could drive up consumer prices and inflation.

While violent crime has declined in recent years, Trump continues to link trade measures to border security and drug issues, echoing his first-term trade policies and immigration stance.

I hope he does it. I really do. The quickest path to revolution is when people aren’t just vibe struggling, it’s when they’re literally starving because nobody can pay for enough calories to sustain themselves. The faster we get to that point, the faster we can fix all of America’s problems by deposing the oligarchs, rewriting the constitution to restore the guardrails of democracy and restructuring the government and the judiciary to serve the people and not corporations.

No balls, Trump, you fucking won’t. You’ll pussy out at the last minute or get bullied by another world leader with more gumption than you can muster.

Not to worry. All the farms in the US will pick up the slack thanks to all that plentiful cheap migrant labor. Oh, wait…

Okay, but are you going to stimulate US manufacturers to fill in the vacuum you’ll create? Unless manufacturers have somewhere else to get their materials from, this will just result in shortages of everything.

We’re gonna be seeing empty shelves in stores again. But there’ll be no new virus to explain it this time.

Not to mention US manufacturing is significantly more expensive because we mostly outlaw slave labor. Either way the poors get hurt and the trumpets get to lap up whatever runs down Dolan’s leg as a consolation.

What are the benefits for him? All that he do is for his own good. At first I thought he was saying lies so that he can get elected. But now that he is elected, what will he gain from doing that? Won’t American suffer so does his assets?

Recessions allow the wealthy to consolidate and expand their wealth.

He’s going to force a huge recession so he, and all of his billionaire friends, can buy up failing companies, consolidate them, and make even more money when the economy gets recovered by someone who actually knows what they’re doing.

Enjoy the last few months of being able to afford anything.

I think his idea is that Mexico and Canada will, in response, do something about the illegal immigrants they’re sending to the US.

Yes, it’s deranged, but it’s also Trump, so what do we expect.

That looks like a ludicrously bad shop job. Also, Whirlpool appliance boxes are not printed in color like that.

And for anyone wondering, practically all of Whirlpool (and all the other “American” brands) refrigerators are made in Mexico. Just saying.

This is late stage capitalism. The oligarchs are now in charge and they are going to loot every last penny that they can then run away laughing.

I would agree with this, going back to Reagan. I technically saw the last few months of the Carter administration when I was born. I’m just not totally sure if Reagan left Bush Sr. a crappy economy, or if Bush Sr. managed to completely torpedo the economy in 4 years, allowing Clinton to perform “an economic miracle.”

They’re simple people, many will be easily convinced that the guy in charge during the shitty time is to blame. Yes, many others will be fooled by their TV’s… But I think a good deal will take things at face value.
