Japan is monthly for at least salaried jobs and most pay on the 25th (or prior business day if weekend or holiday). I think once-monthly is the legal minimum, but some jobs will pay cash same day.
Reddit -> Beehaw until I decided I didn’t like older versions of Lemmy (though it seems most things I didn’t like are better now) -> kbin.social (died) -> kbin.run (died) -> fedia.

I would argue that, at least today, it is also used for more blue collar jobs. At least I’ve heard people use it that way.
Because of decisions that Blizzard under Kotick made, both in terms of products but also how they treated their customers, employees, and fans, I haven’t given them a cent of my money nor playtime. Maybe someday I’ll be convinced to come back to them. Bethesda’s basically there as well for Fallout76 leading up to its release and after. Take2 and Gearbox as well.
I’m in my 40s and I always wonder “am I still young people?” When these articles come up. Middle age and modern society be weird.
I have family that are convinced of several of these and any evidence I present is ‘fake news’ or otherwise handwaved away from not being from their approved sources (and I mean non-affiliated, peer-reviewed papers for stuff as well). It’s going to put christianity in some position and take care of the immigration issues, so they believe, and that’s what they want.
they have colossal overpopulation.
I don’t know that that’s necessarily true, particularly as the older generations are on their way out. I’m not sure how many people Japan can/should support in a sustainable fashion (thinking here more in environmental terms and maybe a bit in economic terms, but not in terms of the safety nets that are getting really wrecked by what you mentioned).
I will 100% agree that the distribution is rather unsustainable on a number of levels. Not being able to get into free/subsidized childcare with growing shrinkflation and stagnant wages has certainly been an issue, and more people moving to the same places has definitely impacted that poorly.
I don’t know if it’s changed here, but even as a guy trying to get sterilized without being married nor having kids was work. I found someone to do it and paid out-of-pocket to get it done. I’ve heard similar stories from women living here.
This guy is known for spouting all kinds of bullshit, apparently. I’ve lived here for a decade and it’s the first I’ve heard of this level of insanity (though there certainly is no short of misogyny from the fossils and those wont to blame anyone else for their problems).
Everyone I’ve known here who works in film, anime, manga, etc. work ridiculous hours with shit work-life balance. I’m sure that’s not true of everyone, but especially the smaller studios. It is something that needs to be addressed and, to its credit, the government has imposed more penalties on crazy work hours and upped enforcement, but it’s hard to catch the people who aren’t reporting their actual hours even if there are now penalties on the employees themselves as well for not doing so. There need to be some big, systemic changes in a lot of those areas here because it is also, in part, a culture issue.
identifying anime and video games as core industries in its revised Cool Japan strategy.
I’ll be impressed if the ‘Cool Japan’ program is proven to be more than primarily for domestic consumption to say “look! we’re doing something!”
Can he put in a good word for me? The world needs a Bond that’s an overweight but otherwise average-looking guy with an American accent, right?
The existing rail network is already pretty jammed on a lot of lines. Cargo does run at night (mostly) on other rail lines, but night is when maintenance is also done (we don’t really have any 24-hour trains here except on special occasions and I think none of those even since corona). The safety record here does come with a cost in that sense; the checks, maintenance, and construction all occur at night with freight running around that.
If they are adding this in the middle of the expressways, the land is already acquired. It probably takes less infrastructure to do this than putting in rails would involved. I also doubt it would be to code for rails since there needs to be room to get passengers off in the case of emergency, etc. Zooming in on 35.698190871019335, 139.75230458261458 in Tokyo does show there isn’t even really any room between lanes, though, and it’s not different up where I live a few hundred KM north so I’m not exactly sure what the play is. All expressways are paid today and the tolls were supposed to go away eventually, but they never will if the construction never ends (and it never ends).
I think it does have some cargo space, but not enough to matter in any significant way. IIRC it’s mostly just mail and parcels, but I might be mis-remembering.
Of course honey is sugar. My point was that, regardless of the arrangement of molecules, I basically never use any sweetener
If you are open to the risk, you can start your own server that is federated with Lemmy and such where you can allow whatever you wish. There are guides to this and, supposedly (based on looking to start my own single-user mbin instance a few months ago), it’s not so costly
I still have a lot of old blizzard games on floppy and played wow for years. Based on their behavior and treatment of both their workers and communities, they’ll not see a cent from me again until they prove themselves in the long-term. I don’t pirate so also no unofficial numbers from me, either
But don’t worry; well make you buy those legacy games in the shop again because fuck you pay me for the 4th time for a game from the 80s/90s. ~ abe Nintendo, probably
this many Americans think Trump was and will be a good president.
I think fewer people think this than think trump and his ignoring rules and laws is their ticket to power and influence for their cause and thing that trump is a means that is justified by the end.
Until and unless the US changes FPTP and winner-takes-all voting, it will always boil down to tactical voting. More people running for local offices and working their way up the system would also help.
May 1st 2024 was a decade ago? (The article has a list and only two are old as you mention, though not quite a decade yet)
