  • I started playing around 2022, so I don’t have a point of reference for some of your points. They did overhaul space stations visually, but they are mostly the same functionally system to system. I can’t remember if they made multi biome planets because frankly, I rarely land on the same planet twice. Again, they did revamp the appearances of land and water biomes to make them more interesting as well.

To me, No Man’s Sky is more about breadth and discovery rather than depth and simulation. I have come back to the game a number of times because of interesting expeditions or the addition of new mechanics like piracy or organic ships.

It’s not a game for everyone, and it doesn’t do any one thing better than any other game, but it’s a great experience if you want a solo space sandbox experience.

Man, I wish that was the case at places I worked at. My last company would give you stipends for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Try to spend that stipend at a convenience store because you don’t eat breakfast and just want some coffee and a snack for later? Screw you, we’re deducting from your paycheck for that.

I had a coworker who got caught on the wrong side of that policy. Since then, he’d always max out his stipend at every meal. Apps, desserts, etc. He’d get a second entree just to take back to his hotel as long as it wouldn’t put him over the limit.

He probably cost the company hundreds extra because they wouldn’t reimburse him for a bag of chips one time.

  • My dad pays for the NFL.com package and YouTubeTV (not premium, and even more expensive package than that) so he can watch all the games. I dread every season because of the inevitable bitching about one or both services.

He has an elastic band he puts up to block the score ticker on the bottom of the screen, and he’s constantly terrified that they’ll cut away from the current game for an update on another one he hasn’t watched yet.

I feel like there’s a real market for the old Red Zone channel that DirectTV used to do. No commercials, no breaks, just snap, play until the whistle, then fast forward to the next snap. It only showed gameplay when one of the teams was in the red zone(hence the name), but I bet people like my dad would pay enough to offset the lost ad revenue if they covered the whole game like that.
