  • Yes, that is the speed you’re going, then the acceleration you experience due to the change in direction as the earths surface revolves about an axis is a = v²/r. R being the radius of the earth. This gets us our small acceleration value.

You do experience this small acceleration as a very small reduction in weight. You actually weigh more at the poles than the equator. You don’t feel the velocity at all, as the whole planet is moving with you.

  • Maybe my math is wrong but: The Earth’s radius is about 6,371 kilometers. With this large radius and a 24-hour rotation period, the centripetal acceleration at the equator is only about 0.034 m/s². This is tiny compared to Earth’s gravitational acceleration of 9.8 m/s². So the centripetal effect is only about 0.3% of gravity’s effect.

  • Something which clarified Zuck’s behavior in my mind was an interview where he said something along the lines of, “I could sell meta for x amount of dollars, but then I’d just start another company anyways, so I might as well not.”

The guy isn’t doing what financially makes sense. He’s Uber rich and working on whatever projects he thinks are cool. I wish Zuck would stop sucking in all his other ways, but he just doesn’t care about whether his ideas are going to succeed or not.

  • I do wonder, hypothetically, if free Linux distros had 80% of the consumer market, would we see just as many dangerous exploits and malware as we do on Windows today? It seems to me that the consumer community is so small that it’s hard to say if it’s secure or just obscure.

I understand in theory Linux is more secure… But are individual users really not opening themselves up to attacks, downloading foss software right and left? Using built in stores? Wine emulation?
