I think I’m going to buy it soon as well. Heard it’s a little rough around the edges, but the first games weren’t exactly stable either. From what I’ve seen so far it’s exactly as hoped: a modern stalker game like the old ones. Atmospheric, dark, hard, and janky. I respect the devs so much for building a game like this during such hard times.

Honestly, however much I want to pretend to be better than that, I think it does work on me. Obviously not on a conscious level, I know how numbers work, but some part of my monkey brain sees the 1 instead of the 2 and therefore concludes that it must be way cheaper. It’s a feeling that no amount of facts is going to disable. And in the end many purchasing decisions aren’t based on a full analysis but on feelings.

Yeah this. Nowadays I can usually stop it or at least make it way lighter by just moving my foot in the right position again. It has almost become a reflex at this point

I use it for sim racing sometimes and it’s amazing to feel like I’m in an F1 car or something. Until I get nauseous after 15 minutes or something. It’s also a bit of a hassle to set up. That being said, maybe it would be cooler if I got into beat saber or something.

Was it over hyped? Maybe. But it’s still a cool technology and I’d be sad to see it fall into nothingness. I don’t see a future where everyone is wearing VR glasses, but it’s still a very neat thing to enjoy every now and then.

Apart from the many compatibility issues with all kinds of random games that can usually be fixed within an hour (but still cost me too much time), the biggest one is specific stuff like playing Assetto Corsa with mods in VR using a Logitech wheel. It’s already a pretty hefty stack of things to keep working on Windows, but on Linux I cannot even get AC to start so I have no idea whether the rest will work.

I’m already fighting computers all day. When I get home tired the last thing I want to do is to fight the computer even more. I just want a game to start without issue. Even on my Steam deck I have regular hard crashes of the system in multiple games, and my PC is probably less supported due to the more random set of packages installed

Lemmy generally attracts the same kind of person that would also use Linux. Both of them are open source and community driven alternatives to software otherwise provided by large corporations and milked for every last cent. Both of them require just a bit more knowledge in order to comfortably use them. Linux with all the distro’s and desktop environments, Lemmy with all the instances and apps/front-ends. We’re very much a bubble here.

Maybe it’s just my “golden touch”, but like 70% of the games I’ve tried to play have had some kind of issue. I recently got a steam deck and I regularly have crashes where the whole deck just does a full restart. Usually while I’m already gaming for a while. On the deck most games do generally start though, which is better than my own PC. On my PC I tend to have to hack around a bit before it works. For now I’m still gaming on Windows because of this instability, but I will have to switch at some point due to Micro$oft’s ever growing greed

That depends on the person. I’m autistic and for me it’s just a moment to minimise stimuli and recharge a little bit. No fear involved, just a little overstimulated and in need of a reset.

I’m from the EU. I do the same. I hate getting calls. It forces me to drop everything I’m doing and suddenly switch contexts, which I absolutely hate. So I usually don’t answer unless I expect the call or know the number. If it’s important they can enter a voicemail or preferably send a message, either of which doesn’t require an immediate response and is therefore a lot less annoying.
