  • I check youtube for replacement videos for battery and screen

You already lost me there. My times of looking up video guides on how to repair my phone are over, I can replace the battery with my hands and the screen is mounted with 8 screws. OEM parts can be ordered directly from Fairphone and arrive within 2 days.

all replacements done with chinese parts, ultra-cheap and locally available.

It is incredibly difficult to get OEM parts for many phones, you never know if it is a good part until you actually have it in your hand. In some cases it doesn’t matter but I have never seen a cheap third party screen which comes close to the original.

I figure I’m doing everyone a service by repurposing a discarded 5 year old phone.

You are, the best phone for the environment is an old phone.

  • what’s your use case that you need that kind of a phone?

I repair my phones when they break and the easy repair of a Fairphone is in no way comparable to the absolute pain it is to remove the display on a phone released in the last 5 years.

Especially considering they provide a 5 year warranty, source fair materials, 8 years of security updates and many more years to come with full access to replacement parts.

  • Doesn’t that impact your view of the screen?

Depends on the sensitivity you configure, usually you only tilt a few degress. I do prefer it on a Dualsense controller though with no display attached to the controller.

Do you use it in hectic situations - like doom etc? Or is it better for sniping and stuff where you have time to aim?

Usually for instances where I have time to aim. I have seen quite a few people who are really good with the trackpad but I’m more of a mouse or gyro control guy.

Trackpad rules in strategy games though.

  • I guess trackpad aim is just using the pads instead of the joystick?

You can combine as well. I usually use the stick on the left hand and the trackpad on the right one. You can also go back and forth while playing.

does that require tilting the device?

Yep, you can set it to activate only if your finger is resting on the right joystick. Very useful for precise movement, just bring the camera in an approximate direction with the stick and do the rest with the gyro control.

For the more popular games there’s usually a few community profiles you can download and try before messing with Steam Input yourself.

  • I have a Voron 2.4 right now, and had a Prusa MK3 before that.

It remains to be seen what additional work the kit amounts to. The Prusa XL can be assembled within a few hours while the Prusa MK3 is a day project and the Voron is a multi day project, not even including the time needed to research the different Voron kits.

Assuming it does not lack in features or quality, I think the price for the kit is fair since it includes the full Prusa support, next day shipping for replacement parts and it is made in the EU. The Voron with its flying gantry is dope, but I do sometimes miss being able to just write Prusa about an issue and get replacement parts under warranty in 2-3 days.
