Sure, Marge, let’s do it. Now show us how many rubles you’ve got.
It should, but frankly, I’ve given up believing that people can be trusted to rise to the occasion and do the right thing.
Gee, I wonder who she voted for…
While I agree with your point, this isn’t an indictment of journalism. Comicsands.com is George Takei’s personal buzzfeed clone. I love George Takei but it’s not an actual news source, it’s a meme blog. Personally, I don’t think it belongs in any serious news oriented communities.
He’s not. But several years ago the media latched onto a well established term from “internet culture” without understanding (or perhaps caring) what it was actually describing, and decided that it meant ridiculing something on social media. It’s an example of a subculture’s slang getting thoroughly corrupted through mainstream exposure until it no longer means what it once did.
I’d be a lot happier if Mastodon were seeing 1 million new users a day right now, but I’ll take what I can get. Any dent in Twitter’s user base is good. Here’s hoping that experiencing “the Fediverse with training wheels” over at Bluesky will lead to people moving to Mastodon sooner rather than later.
All the direct result of decades worth of work by Republicans to erode public education and vilify ‘expertise’ as a concept.
“Anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that ‘my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.’” - Isaac Asimov
Well deserved. Betty White was an immense talent and a wonderful human being. She was a true ally against bigotry.
In 1954, as The Betty White Show became national across the United States, White was criticized by many in the Southern states for having Arthur Duncan, a Black tap dancer, on her variety show and was asked to remove him. In the 2018 documentary Betty White: First Lady of Television, White recalled threats to take the show off-air “if we didn’t get rid of Arthur, because he was Black.” She refused, saying “he stays, live with it”.
Also:
A supporter and advocate of LGBT rights, White said in 2010, “If a couple has been together all that time – and there are gay relationships that are more solid than some heterosexual ones – I think it’s fine if they want to get married. I don’t know how people can get so anti-something. Mind your own business, take care of your affairs, and don’t worry about other people so much.” In a 2011 interview, she revealed that she always knew her close friend Liberace was gay and that she sometimes accompanied him to premieres to help him hide it.
Yeah, sorry for being snarky, but the Fediverse refers to all federated software. So, Fedia.io for example, is an MBin instance. Which is different than Lemmy and Mastodon but they can all interact with each other. They’re all part of the overall Fediverse. So your comment was just kind of awkwardly phrased and redundant.
Which is both Fediverse and Mastodon.
Well… yeah.

Just when the country needed a laugh the most, The Onion went and did the funniest thing they could possibly do. This is a wonderful morning.
Jesus fucking Christ. Putin must be ecstatic.
Bluesky is like the Fediverse equivalent of bumper bowling. Don’t get me wrong, there’s definitely a place for it, and it’s better than staying on Twitter, but I do hope it ends up being just a stepping stone for people to get comfortable before taking off the guard rails and moving on to actual federated services like Mastodon or Lemmy.
It’s strange here in the US too. I don’t know anyone that has a problem with that. That kind of puritanical attitude about drinking is not the prevailing sentiment here. Sure, my friends and I aren’t getting plastered at BBQ’s like we did in college, but it’s not like we aren’t having some beers at a cookout just because half of us have kids now. It’s just a vocal religious minority making a lot of noise. Don’t get me wrong, this country does have a different, more uptight, relationship with alcohol than Europe, but it’s not nearly as extreme as it may appear online and in media.
Yep, I stopped watching MSNBC over Net Neutrality. Despite being a huge issue for months it was completely ignored. It could not have been more obvious that Comcast would not allow any coverage of the issue.

Same empty threat as last time. If he loses and somehow doesn’t manage to get the Supreme Court to overturn the results, he’ll go right back to campaigning for 2028. He’s going to be running for president for the rest of his life.
