When I lived down in Houston I made the disturbing discovery that cockroaches in the south of the us are much much larger than the frozen north.

I also learned that they can fly (Texas has FOUR flying varieties), and will in fact fly right in your balcony door if you leave it cracked for the cat and have a light on inside… they also don’t care about you.

With a phobia of roaches, let’s just say Texas wasn’t the right state for me…

  • I’m not trans, and am fairly fem-presenting, but I’ve been accused of being a man several times since this whole bigotry thing really took off… mostly because I don’t perform femininity particularly well (deep natural voice, no makeup, comfortable clothes, never interested in men hitting on me and not afraid to say so), because it’s all bullshit I don’t care about.

As a result, I’ve more or less stopped going out since I live in a very red area (of an otherwise purple state)… I’m a small woman with disabilities, I’m not confident of my ability to protect myself against large bigoted men (who are thus far the only problem I’ve had).

Now that it’s further ramping up, I’ll just stay home at all times. That surely won’t have consequences. I can only imagine what trans people are dealing with with this stuff. My heart goes out to you.

I only shave my legs when pulling up my ski socks (knee-high, tight enough to not fall down, but I’ve never been skiing) causes pain from pulled hairs. And sometimes when I go to a pool. So like maybe 5-8 times a year.

I don’t wear shorts or skirts above the ankle, so I really don’t care most of the time.

  • As someone in a swing state, I’d be ok with that. Make the US like the EU.

For one thing, every 4 years residents of swing states get relentlessly harassed and it fucking sucks. But also It’s so so much easier to make changes on a smaller local level without the influence of distant populations. Sure it would suck in some ways and for some states, but maybe if each state only had to convince a few thousand people to do better, rather than literally millions (presidential election, very demoralizing), swing states would be more left leaning.

And if not, well it would probably be a lot easier to move states than move countries, even if they were EU style countries.

It kinda looks like a game king cartridge, from the inside bits (can’t find a pic of the whole thing), but that’s from the early 2000s. I went through a list of older handhelds and that’s the closest entry. But importantly, that probably isn’t it.

What you have is probably a regional knock-off sort of thing, or something that was never popular/prominent enough to be added to the wiki page.

This is the handheld list I went through. I stopped at the DS, as I assume yours is considerably older than that. Some of the old systems only have a handful of games for them, so it’s possible it’s something that just wasn’t made in large numbers, but my bet is on super-generic-knockoff-gamebay/gamboy/toyboy/gamekid handheld system (jokey knockoff names not real things afaik), which are not listed with the actual non-knockoff systems. (I wasn’t able to find much about vintage knockoff/copy systems)

  • That’s like one of the super grindy JRPG titles I have (100 hours or so to get through the story). To get all the achievements, you’d have to play through an absolute minimum of 9 times, because you need to kill the end boss without taking damage on each difficulty level, and they unlock as you go. But you’d actually be grinding bosses for ages trying to get them without taking damage…

The game was ok, but I honestly can’t see wanting to play it twice let alone 9 times… there’s definitely a reason almost nobody has those achievements…

  • Sure but it could also be simsimulation and maybe they can play as us on a grand scale and if so they maybe can tweak the war, dissent, and natural disaster settings down a bit… you know for the sake of recovering from the fun part.

Cuz idk if you ever played simcity and set loose disasters, recovering from them suuuuucked when it got out of hand.

  • I don’t ever change my clocks, I just do mental math because my car clock also tends to drift roughly a minute a month so I’m used to it. Frankly I don’t even set most of them when the power goes out (phone and watch are right either way, bedroom and living room get set after outages)… but when one friend comes over they always set or change all my clocks for me because it drives them crazy…

Appliance clocks can be useful, but I typically don’t use the pre-set or programmed features anyway so meh. I think in 10 years I’ve used the scheduled bake on my oven once, and that’s about as much as I’ve used any of the program features on any appliances…

(I’m just speculating for fun here)

Based on the sash, this is a woman celebrating a birthday or bachelorette. Due to the pattern on it I’m leaning toward birthday, as bachelorette sashes tend to be solid white.

She’s probably hammered, having been day drinking since 10AM (that’s what those sashes are for; to give lunch goers a clear visual warning sign.) and based on the shadow line and assumed time of year (I’m just assuming it’s not northern California in winter, but it might be) that is probably like 4-5pm, so she’s been drunk for a solid while, probably in the sun.

So very drunk, good mood woman gets an idea that twerking poolside (very possibly to no music or music played off a shitty phone) is the way to keep the party going (a shockingly common sort of happening at those two categories of sash-wearing events). And for that one guy, far far too old to have any shame left about being a creep, she’s absolutely right.

This makes me wonder, though, if those dumb attention seeking sashes exist outside of the us (baseball hat in background seems to indicate US)… I’m sure they must in some form, but I really sort of hope it’s just here that people are so self absorbed as to think a birthday or wedding is a free pass to be a public disaster. (Also there used to be a trend of wearing a sash so strangers would staple money to it, but thankfully that seems to have died…)
