  • Voyager for Lemmy is some seriously gourmet shit.

    But seriously the answer is usually that the big company is trying to apply to ALL USERS and usually only pleases a subset or none of those users.

    Voyager isn’t for you? That’s fine, Lemmy has a nice API and you can build whatever you like. Lemmy is also open so if that API isn’t nice you can provide suggestions and fixes.

    I’m not saying it’s perfect, but it’s a pretty good place to be.

    Look at early Twitter or formerly Reddit. A nice API. Tons of fantastic clients. Open source is the best, but even just “open” is a fantastic first step.

  • That’s a wild stance.

    The musical premiered in 2003 and has been wildly successful. It’s the third highest grossing musical behind The Lion King, which was already and has since become a film again, as well as Phantom of the Opera which had a film made several years back.

    This film was always going to be made. Musical films have an iffy track record. Some do great, some do terrible, few are just sorta in the middle.

    You can call it a cash grab if you want but even that seems ridiculous. It’s a film that was always going to be made someday, it’s been 20+ years since the musical premiered, and they’ve spent a good amount of money on it. The only point you have in favor of it being a cash grab is the fact that it’s a two parter. But that’s not a cash grab it’s just greed.

    As for Gladiator 2… I have no idea how that relates to this film.

  • I know that’s a direct quote from the developer, but I disagree that is what actually happened.

    The Animal Well journey began in two phases, Basso says: a quick stab at a Metroidvania-styled prototype in 2012, and a bespoke engine project that he took more seriously, which he began coding alone in 2014 during his day job’s off hours.

    It was 2017, and some of the design ideas from his 2012 Metroidvania lark had continued pulling on him, so Basso “wrote off” his 3D engine as “a learning experience” and started anew with 2D search action as a priority.

    It seems clear to me the prototype did more heavy lifting than he’s giving credit. He clearly had an established vision beginning with the prototype. He spent three years thinking 3D was the best way to achieve that goal, but that goal was clearly based on the prototype. At some point it was clear that 3D was drifting away from the core, so the switch to 2D and a renewed focus was the answer.

    It’s also clear that they had a distinct art style in mind from the start.

    For his new game, he wanted pixels to scale perfectly to a variety of common screen resolutions, along with visual effects that meshed well with his integer-scaled pixel art.

    And that existing engines couldn’t meet that distinct art style.

    That home-brew engine is what gives the game its unique look and can allow for unique game elements, but that initial prototype was clearly the guide.

  • Trump will just take no responsibility. He’ll blame RFK Jr for all the things that go wrong. Maybe he’ll eventually get fired but at that point the damage will already be done. Trump will just say “Ah, he screwed me, I would have done the exact same thing but it would have worked, I’m a smart guy, I’ll fix it or appoint someone else to fix it.” And then it won’t be fixed.

    So if RFK Jr. is smart he’ll just do a little bit of damage over time. Alternatively if there is a ton of chaos on day 1, then just add to the chaos. People can only be angry at so many things at one time.

    1. The sole or primary purpose of the service is to enable online social interaction between two or more end users;
    2. The service allows end users to link to, or interact with, some or all of the other end users;

    The first two rules basically just mean no one can interact. A version of YouTube could exist within these rules.

    1. The service allows end users to post material on the service.

    So that’s basically the Internet. You can’t visit Rotten Tomatoes for film reviews. Maybe you only show the critics score. But aren’t they also end users? How about a newspaper? Newspaper has an opinion section. How many opinion writers can you have?
