Presidential elections are run by states. They keep track of who is registered to vote, they run polling places, they print ballots, they own the machines that are used to cast and/or count votes, and every election worker ultimately reports to - and is paid by - their governor.

The president has no role, at all. He can’t hire election workers, can’t access polling places, can’t look at voter registries, and has no voting machines. Intentionally, to avoid schemes like yours.

So to extend the dialog:

Biden: Hey, all the governors flaked out so I’m hiring people to rerun the election myself. I’ll pay you $10,000. Bring 699,999 of your friends, we gotta build a whole new bureaucracy from scratch.

Even with the “broad immunity granted by the SCOTUS”, Biden can’t do what you want him to do. Immunity from prosecution does not mean ability to rewrite election laws.

Special cases cut both ways. Judge Cannon and the SCOTUS would agree with you that Trump was a special case, thus delaying the case further.

Judge Chutkan insisted on treating Trump like any other defendant. I think she had the right approach.

Just for comparison, the Feds indicted some random person for selling pirated TV shows in 2019 and didn’t get a conviction until this month. That’s five years, and the SCOTUS wasn’t even helping him drag the case out.

Federal cases take a long time when defendants insist on going to trial and dragging things out.

You should reread his speeches. He didn’t lie about being a progressive. He was openly a centrist.

He never promised single-payer health care or a public option. He promised to stop insurance companies from excluding people with preexisting conditions, which he did.

He never promised to end all the wars. He promised to withdraw troops from Iraq and send more troops to Afghanistan, which he did.

And he didn’t say anything at all about taxing the rich or helping unions.

Obama and Clinton were centrists. They won.

Even if she took zero steps towards the goal, that’s infinitely preferable to Trump’s pushing for annexation of the occupied territories and dismantling the Palestinian Authority.

That’s not how midterms usually work. More people will vote for Democrats in 2026 than 2024. The key is maximize just how many more.

Pundits are losing their minds, but I don’t think the Democratic party leaders are giving up.

My hunch is that they are playing the long game. They are counting on three things. First, Trump’s plans will crash the economy. Second, the Trump White House always turns on its own. Third, with a GOP trifecta there isn’t much Democrats can do to stop Trump - for now.

So any demands they make now will be ignored, and even used in the future to blame Democrats as obstructionist. I think they are lying low and giving the GOP what they need to hang themselves. When the public is furious about the economy, it will be time to start making demands.
