  • This is an inaccurate claim by Sanders. Biden was the first President to walk a picket line with striking workers.

With union negotiations, he was pretty balanced. He did come down on the railroad strikes some after both sides got stuck, but they did get improvements beyond what management wanted to give. With the ports, though, he stuck with the workers and forced management to negotiate by refusing to override the strike.

Could the Democrats do more? Sure. But they’re still recovering from the fever that took the party over with Clinton in '92. There are a lot of people who believe that win was a meaningful approval of the pro corporate but not racist Democratic Party platform, when in reality Clinton only won thanks to Perot.

I don’t know that there was any magic messaging that Harris could’ve deployed this time around. I’m not sure there was any likely alternative even from a short post-Biden primary that could’ve done better than her.

Trump has everyone thinking he has some magic way to boost salaries and lower prices. And he railed against the elites more stridently and apparently people believed him.

On the other hand Google saw a lot of traffic with people asking if Biden dropped out so who knows what could have been done to avoid Trump 2.

  • In really it’s probably a mix that totals to around 90% of the people making these pronouncements are either bots, paid trolls from enemy nations, nihilists, or the equivalent. The remaining 10% probably have a genuine belief that voting for Harris makes them complicit in the genocide the Israeli government and its military are committing. They’re incorrect, on many levels, but that is probably their genuine belief.

We must always vote for the lesser evil because that’s what the real world is, from the most negative point of view: reducing evil and suffering. We know some of the things we’re doing today will be seen as evil by our progeny. We don’t know others.

A Harris administration will be the most likely to reduce the suffering of Palestinians, the most likely to force the Israeli government and military to end the genocide, and the most likely to make real strides toward middle east peace.

  • Yeah most of the discussion I’ve heard about persuading voters is not that people sympathetic to Democratic policies are split between Harris and Trump but that they’re split between voting and couch.

Like I get if some Californians or New Yorkers know that their state is going for Harris. But in 2020 some US House districts in CA and NY went to Republicans even though the states went to Biden.

It’s not going to be sufficient for Harris to be President. We need her to have a strong majority in the House and Senate as well so that a future President Harris, Leader Schumer, and Speaker Jeffries can work together to make Americans’ lives better.

If any part of Congress is controlled by the Republican Party, we’ll be stuck in purgatory for another 2 to 4 years. That’s avoidable if we win the fight against the couch.

  • 2016 taught us to never take anything for granted, and to always run as if we’re 2 points behind. There are secret “deplorables” out there just waiting to use their secret ballot to vote ruin upon their trusting neighbors’ heads.

What I want from each and every one of you is a hard-target search of every gas station, residence, warehouse, farmhouse, henhouse, outhouse and doghouse in that area. Checkpoints go up at fifteen miles. Your fugitive’s name is Dr. Richard Kimble Undecided Voter. Go get them.

  • What I don’t get about this is why in this day and age with all the analytics tools we have do companies continue to just happily pay for simple eyeball exposure?

The only time they seem to have any pause at all on this model is if people post screenshots of ads for their products next to posts literally praising Nazis.

These so called AIs (LLMs) can learn to tell the difference between positive/happy/uplifting posts, neutral posts, and angry/sad/disturbing posts. The advertisers should be asking for their products to be featured next to the first and second groups of posts.

People engage based on anger, sure. They click posts and reply and whatnot. But do they click the ad next to a post that pisses them off and then buy the product?

Or is this purely a subconscious intrusion effort? Do the advertisers just want their products in front of eyeballs regardless of what’s around the ad? It seems like the answer is “no” when they’re called out. But maybe it’s “yes” if they can get away with it?
