Summary
Lawyers for Elon Musk’s America PAC acknowledged in court that $1 million-a-day “winners” in its voting sweepstakes aren’t randomly selected but are chosen as paid “spokespeople.”
The Philadelphia hearing saw DA Larry Krasner argue the sweepstakes is an illegal lottery lacking clear rules or privacy protections. Intended to boost Trump’s campaign in swing states, the initiative faces scrutiny for alleged data misuse.
Musk’s involvement as the PAC’s figurehead could lead to criminal charges as Pennsylvania, an important battleground state, nears Election Day.
Your honor, it’s not a lottery, it’s just a scam.
Holy shit. Having the balls to admit in court that your sweepstakes is fraudulent! That’s a special kind of special.
So you lied to Pa voters that it was a lottery
Hilarious. The MAGA movement is like a fractal of grifts.
Illegal lottery in Pennsylvania, okay.
But how does this not also violate FEC regulations and, you know, US law? He’s literally paying people to vote and the implication is to vote for his specific candidate.
“When you’re rich, they let you do it.”
A scammer that is scamming to elect a con man. Sounds about right.
Some people were calling this the day he announced it. That it would turn out they weren’t random, thus not an illegal lottery.
He’s not
halfa sixtheenth as clever as he thinks he is.Isn’t this false advertising then?
IANAL, but would anyone have standing to sue if there aren’t any losses? It’s not like people bought tickets.
I mean that’s still time and effort to do whatever form was necessary to “apply”. It also probably runs foul of lottery rules to have not randomly picked winners because everyone else didn’t have a chance of winning. Like if someone “in the know” adulterates the powerball numbers the fact that everyone else was statistically unlikely to win doesn’t change that they lied about the chance to win.
