      Doesn’t matter, he’ll still claim it was the biggest win ever. And Republicans will govern like it’s true.

    He won less than fifty percent of the vote. That’s not a fucking mandate. It’s a close win.

    Well, does a “powerful” enough Mandate give them permission to break or ignore laws?

    Legally no. In realty… good I hope not.

    His mandate derives from the republican majority control of the house, senate, presidency, supreme court, governorships, and state legislatures. Popular vote is a narrow and deceptive way to understand a mandate. We’re basically arguing here about whether he should feel good about being able to do what he wants. Frankly, I don’t think he cares.

    No rational person thinks he can’t do what he wants. We’re all just left debating whether he should and how he should feel about it, which is largely inconsequential and a really sad and pointless conversation to be having.
